Mattia Ciafardo

Mattia Ciafardo (b. 1991, Italy) is a self-taught photographer -- or perhaps not a photographer in the strictest sense of the word. His research is based on digital media and its relationship with the real world as well as on consumer society, concepts closely related to one another. Ciafardo’s current work plays with the possibilities of the web and explores the narrative qualities of hyper-realism. His project “Tons of steel” was created by merging screenshots from Google Maps, and focuses upon the excessive number of cars in the world today, and the problems associated with this excess.
