Celine Croze (b. 1982, Morocco) is a visual artist based in Paris. Sensitive to the cracks that our society is going through, Croze uses her background in cinema and fictional writing to transgress the world she’s looking at.

Each photo project resembles a human story. The grainy dark landscapes, under-lit human bodies or slightly uncomfortable closeups are results of instinctual decisions. When photographing, Croze follows her animalistic side that border on urgency and danger. Her images collect the residues of moments, try to feel the human flesh and sketch the faces of injury or violence. With every project, Croze wants to get as close as possible and capture the atmosphere of a given moment.

For Croze a photographic series can be sparked by the smallest observation, piece of writing or an encounter. For ‘Les Purs’ the inspiration came from a recurring dream of being surrounded by water and feeling unsafe. In case of ‘Nothing Happened’ the visual story came together with two touching poems. ‘SQEVNV’ on the other hand unraveled as a result of a conversation Croze had with a friend, while siting on the rooftop beyond Caracas.

Her mystical photography, inspired by the moving image and the aesthetics of cinematography, introduces the viewer to a hidden world beyond that what can be experienced or seen.
